Officers
| Scott Lee, MPhil, MPA President Scott is an MD/PhD candidate in medicine and healthcare management at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School. First traveling to rural Kenya as a college sophomore, Scott has since spent six summers working with Ugunja Community Resource Center to strengthen several of its programs, including community health, sustainable agriculture, youth empowerment, and microfinance. When not in Kenya, he has worked at the World Health Organization, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Partners In Health. Scott holds a BA in medical anthropology from Harvard College, an MPhil in environment and development from Cambridge University, and an MPA in health policy from Princeton University. |
| Matt Mulder Vice President Matt currently serves as Director of Middle School Academics and Community Services at SquashBusters, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides recreational enrichment, academic tutoring, and mentoring to low-income children in Boston. Matt graduated from Harvard in 2005 with a degree in international development and was heavily involved in community service and mentoring programs throughout college. Matt volunteered with Ugunja Community Resource Center in rural Kenya for six months in 2006, during which he helped to establish a vocational training institute and developed an after-school enrichment program for orphans and vulnerable children. |
| Amara Mulder, MA Treasurer Amara is an MD candidate in the Health Sciences and Technology program at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to medical school, Amara taught underprivileged middle-school students in Los Angeles as a member of Teach for America, and during college she volunteered at a student-run homeless shelter, conducted cell biology research, and managed a student-run campus cleaning agency with nearly 400 employees. Amara volunteered with Ugunja Community Resource Center in rural Kenya for six months in 2006, spearheading the development of its affiliated health project, St. Paul's Health Center. |
| Judy Choi Director Judy is an MD candidate at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, Judy worked as a case manager with Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program through the AmeriCorps program, as a personal attendant for disabled college students, and as a teaching fellow at Harvard University Extension School. Judy volunteered with Ugunja Community Resource Centre during the summer of 2005, providing support for mobile health clinics in remote parts of rural Kenya. Judy holds a BA in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from University of California, Berkeley. |
| Sarah Stewart Johnson, MSc Director Sarah is a PhD candidate in planetary science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a climate change and human development consultant for the International Institute for Sustainable Development. Sarah first worked with Ugunja Community Resource Center in 2002, and she has since been instrumental in the creation of a maternal and child health clinic at UCRC's partner organization, St. Paul's Health Center. Sarah holds BAs mathematics and environmental studies from Washington University in St. Louis, a BA in philosophy, politics, and economics from Oxford University, and an MSc in biology from Oxford. |

| Jessica Hoy Technical Officer Jess hails form upstate New York and is a 2007 graduate of Harvard College, where she majored in psychology. In college, she was a coxswain for the crew team, ran a ceramics studio, and spent several summers running camps for children with terminal illnesses. Throughout college Jess worked extensively in health and psychophysiology labs, learning how to effectively run experiments and analyze quantitative data--a skill that is serving her well as she serves as a CHH Technical Officer in Kenya, with a focus on monitoring and evaluation, preventive health, and health worker training. She has also spent a semester living on a farm in Maine, which is also serving her well in rural Kenya! |
| Elizabeth Nowak Program Officer Ellie is a sophomore at Harvard majoring in African Studies and Global Health. As Program Officer, Ellie provides research and management support for CHH's partnership with Ugunja Community Resource Center. In addition to her work with CHH, Ellie is the founder of Image.I.Nation Art, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and funds for health issues in Africa through art exhibitions. Ellie also works with the Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development in Africa, in which she is planning a conference for youth from all over Africa to take place in Kenya in 2008; and with Project Health, which provides Boston-area patients with assistance in accessing housing, health insurance, food, child care, and job training. |

| Emma Brunskill Emma is a PhD candidate in computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where her research focuses on artificial intelligence and robotics. Emma is strongly interested in the role that information and communication technologies (such as computers and cell phones) can play in global health and development. At CHH, Emma applies this interest by concretely by seeking and assisting in the implementation of effective ICT solutions for CHH's partner organizations. |
| Kevin Ju |
| Christopher Miller Chris is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003 with a degree in Biology and International Development. Prior to medical school, Chris served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the northern region of Turkmenistan from 2003 to 2005. Working within rural clinics and schools, he developed public health materials and conducted community presentations on a variety of medical issues. In addition to developing an immunization program for children, he worked to build the first baseball field in Central Asia and used it as a platform for team-building, leadership training, and cultural exchange. |
| Michael Nevarez Michael is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School. He graduated from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in 2001 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to medical school, Michael worked as an engineer for Agilent Technologies. Concurrently, for the past ten years Michael has been an active co-director of a youth summer camp on the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation in Arizona; the camp provides a safe environment for youth to participate in native traditions, leadership, and learning. Michael's involvement with Common Hope for Health revolves around translating established public health research into effective, community-driven health interventions and programs. |
