Support Haiti Earthquake Relief

Associated Press

Common Hope for Health stands in solidarity with the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010.

We encourage you to support any relief efforts in Haiti, but we especially invite you to support Partners In Health (PIH). Partners In Health has been working with the Haitian government for more than twenty years to strengthen the country's health care system. Several PIH representatives, including co-founders Paul Farmer and Jim Yong Kim, serve on the Advisory Board of Common Hope for Health.

Partners In Health and its Haitian sister organization, Zanmi Lasante, are currently providing medical relief in Port-au-Prince and at their main hospitals in the Haitian countryside. We urge you to support this committed and effective organization in Haiti's time of need.

Please visit pih.org for more information or to donate.

CHH's Winter 2008 Newsletter

December 2008

Dear Friend,

Season’s greetings!  We hope the past year has brought you and yours much joy, discovery, and growth.  These gifts certainly have been in abundance for us at Common Hope for Health, as we’ve faced challenges in our second year of existence that have pushed us to grow and mature in ways that we never anticipated.

Please see below our Winter 2008 newsletter.  In it you’ll find:

•    A reflection on the global economic crisis and how it relates to our work in Kenya
•    How CHH and its partner organization, Ugunja Community Resource Center, responded to the devastating Kenyan election crisis earlier this year
•    Several programmatic updates
•    An essay by Jessica Hoy, who served as CHH’s on-site technical officer during 2007 and 2008
•    And a surprise celebrity appearance!

On behalf of our colleagues and patients in Kenya, thank you so very much for your steadfast support.  Would you continue to partner with us as we strive to improve health, foster opportunity, and restore social justice in rural Kenya and beyond?

In particular, we invite you to either join or renew your membership in our Founders’ Circle, which comprises all of our supporters who contribute at least one dollar a day to support our work.  This amount is symbolic, as it is the international poverty line, below which two-thirds of our patients live. By committing this amount, our Founders’ Circle members affirm their solidarity with our patients and the billion other human beings who continue to struggle for the basic rights—health care, education, gainful employment, security, opportunity—which we and our loved ones hold so dearly.

Sincerely,

The CHH Team
