Mobile Health Technology

In partnership with Dimagi, a Boston-based software company, we have created and are deploying a software application that enables our 30 community health workers to conduct all of their work using mobile phones. This includes: registering new households, pregnant women, and children; providing counseling and education; collecting routine health and demographic data; assessing and managing common illnesses; and making referrals to the health center.

Some of our objectives over the next two years with respect to this initiative are to (1) develop a supervisor application so that supervisors can have rich data about CHW performance and community health at their fingertips, (2) develop local-language counseling videos that can be shown to clients on the phone, on topics such as antenatal care, nutrition, and home management of diarrhea, fever, and cough, and (3) strengthen the referral and follow-up system.
